The Custodial & Immigration Sectors have special requirements and performance specifications, relating to the use of Fire Retardant products. There are clear industry standards which must comply with the Ministry of Justice issued Directives for HM Prison and Detention Centres.
Thomas Kneale is highly experienced in manufacturing products compliant to BS 7175 Ignition Source 7 for Prisons and BS7175 Source 5 for Detention Centres, Immigration Removal Centres and Secure Training Centres as well as Asylum Seeker accommodation.
Additionally, highly specialist products such as anti-ligature blankets, pillows and clothing are manufactured and stocked as well as prison specification clothing including jogging bottoms with no side or front pockets, no drawstrings and Velcro footwear without laces.
Flame Retardant cell curtains are also manufactured incorporating Velcro header tape or tiny magnet hang fasteners to meet Health and Safety requirements.

Our bed linen is available across a range of base fabrics from high thread count finest cotton percale, cotton rich satin stripe, 50/50 easy-care polycotton or something more basic.
In the bathroom our towels come in a wide range of colours all woven using ring spun cotton yarns for durability, absorbency and shrinkage control – they are generously sized.
Our shower curtains come in a choice of white and pastel shades or Satin Stripe in a wide range of sizes.
For caterers we stock all requirements in kitchen textiles, including wiper cloths, chefs whites, aprons etc.
We have a division which offers a full curtain supply and fitting service, where we can discuss your requirements, carry out onsite visits and use our highly skilled team of curtain fitters for installation.
The Maritime & Transportation sectors have very specific requirements and performance specifications, relating to the use of Fire Retardant products, given the confined spaces involved.
These are governed by relevant bodies/legislation such as The International Maritime Organisation for marine, European wide legislation for Railway Applications and National and International Laws for Air transportation.
Thomas Kneale is highly experienced in manufacturing products compliant to the applicable test standards, with the relevant certificates gained from UKAS approved laboratories.
While legally compliant products are an absolute must, we believe that this should not come at the expense of comfort to aid good quality sleep. As a result, our transportation products have been specifically designed and manufactured with both comfort and compliance in mind.
